I walk through several buildings each morning on my way to work.  It's a more pleasant way to get to work - I avoid the crowds and get to see the secret worlds of each building.  I've found a lot of useful things along the way - a hidden shoe repair, a flower shop, etc.  Recently the hotel I walk through has opened a little art gallery and their first show is for an artist by the name of Sonya Sklaroff.  Mostly cityscapes of NYC, the oil paintings look extremely realistic, but when you get up close the brush strokes show a more abstract approach which gives way to a sense of movement.  Really beautiful, I highly recommend checkign her out.

Papercuts

Personally I have a hard enough of time cutting in a straight line with an exacto knife.  I found Elsita's etsy shop through Design*Sponge, talk about amazing, intricate work.  Her shop is closed right now, but I'm so going to buy some when she reopens.

I first found Kate Forrester's work through design*sponge.  Kate's work is hugely inspiring to me.  It's graphic, different, and involves a ton of specialized typography.    She's badass.

30 Reasons to Vote for Obama

I love when good design combines with a great purpose.  30Reasons.org has posters that get delivered to your inbox every day for 30 days leading up to the election. 

Here's their mission statement: 30 Reasons is a 30-day email and internet campaign to encourage people to vote for Barack Obama. Our goal is simple: Use design to build a logical, multi-faceted argument for Obama and make it easy to share each reason with another person.

Hello!

I'm still in the process of a redesign, naturally these things take longer than usual and to top it all off things have been busier in other areas of my life.  As I work through how I want my blog to look and feel, I'm going to post every now and then since I miss it so!

Good things

Rachel Salomon's work is really beautiful and affordable. The print above can be found on her website for $20.  She has lots of beautiful things to look at.  I love this one for the travel aspect, cherry blossoms, and intense red color.    She reminds me of another favorite artist of mine, Tracy Silva Barbosa.

Playing catch up here - here's Tuesday's color - blue, turquoise, etc.  This was taken in the Turks & Caicos a couple years ago - a quick weekend trip when the flights and hotels were cheap, an escape from the city.
